hi

i had one of my chins for 8 years the other 4 and now both of them have died,

the 4 year old one had been dribbling at the mouth took her to the vets and they could see nothing wrong they put her on antibiotics and she seemed to get better and start eating again then 4 weeks later she died, my other one who lived in the same cage started to look wet under the mouth but the fur felt dry and she was still eating and drinking as normal then checked on her last night and she had died as well.

any ideas what this could of been, the vet said the otherone prob died cause she was lonley without her mate, but it doesnt ring true with me.

they both ate charlie chinchilla food had hay water and a mineral block. i moved house 6 weeks ago but they have had nothing else diffrent, could the food/hay be contaimiated?

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Unless you've had postmortems done on both chinchillas you will never know for sure. The symptoms of the dribbling and wet mouths is common to dental problems but that might not be the cause, there could have been something unseen that they have caught.
