It has been just over two weeks since my boy, Dave suddenly passed. his passing came as a great shock and i am still having trouble dealing with how quickly it happened but i will not dwell on that, i shall think of all the joy he brought me.

dave was given to me four years ago by a work colleague's brother in law whose wife was having a baby and she did not want him in the house (the chin, not husband!). he was 10 years old at the time.

i could tell on that first visit that something was not right with dave and so took him to my vet for a check up. (those of you who do not know me, at the time i already had a female chin who had teeth problems and my vet was an exotic specialist). he took xrays and basically told me that his mouth was not good. to cut a long story short he gave him a few months to live but to give him a chance he put him on daily metacam. weeks turned into months and although his mouth was bad he still needed dentals to sort out the spurs that were also growing.

dave was not what you called a good patient. he had a reputation at the vets whereby they had to cover his cage as he would charge at the bars and growl at anyone who would walk past.

in the beginning he was a chin that did not like to be touched/handled and would often rear up and spray me but over time he grew to climb into my hands and we would have a cuddle on my lap or our favourite was for him to sit between my legs and have his chin rubbed and me to pluck any loose fur from his body. he loved that.

as time passed into years he started to slow down and develop other health problems but he was always eager for a chin rub and that last day he had a dental but did not recover from the anaesthetic.

boy i miss those cuddles. i have a lot of fond memories of my cheeky monkey which i will never forget. i know he is free from pain which is the main thing and joins the rest of my family, sky, shannara and smokey joe. sleep tight little one. until we meet again. know that you are missed terribly.
