I did some enquiring around earlier and found a guinea pig person who has had prolapsed bowel in two guinea pigs. I just wanted to let you knwo that they recommended exactly what your vet has done.

sorry i cannot help either.i have experienced it once.chins was fine running about with her 2 week old baby, less than 30 mins later when i went in she was laid dead in a pool of blood.in that short time her bowel had prolapsed and she had chewed it to try to get rid of it.it all happened so quickly :*(

hopefully your chins bowel will stay in place.if it does come back out just make sure it stays moist and doesnt dry out.this is very important.

Hope you chin is fine. One of our chin once have this problem. I think it wasn't as serious as yours. It happen because she was under stress and wasn't eating properly. After which she had a prolapse bowel. We were recommended by someone to use ice to press against her anal and prolapse area. This caused a contraction and the prolapse bowel was suck into her system again. After which a vet visit is in place to check that she is fine. I hope this help.

Hiya,

Sorry i didn't see this sooner. My Poppy with the prolasp had a purse string stitch in and she didn't poop until they removed the stitch she did get runny poop after they removed it but it has gone now and you wouldn't even know she had had the problem by looking at her bits.

my vet did say if it came out to soak some cotton wool in some saline sloution and to try and push it back in as shelley's hubby did and that should to the trick.

the vet also said that in dogs and cats they just take the prolasp off and stitch the remaining intestine to the colon again but in chins it's paper thin so that doesn't work.

Hope some of this helps

Sarah

p.s. i also gave some calpol as i thought poppy might be in pain so that might be worth thinking about

I'm sorry - I wish I could think of something else to suggest. Please remember that you are doing everything that you can for her.
